Fabulous antique ironstone porcelain manufactured by Elsmore & Foster. This wheat pattern was registered on November 2, 1859. The diamond mark was used in England from 1842 to 1883 and these pieces were produced between 1859 and 1867. Minor imperfections are common as this typy of pottery was intended for everyday utilitarian use. Clear glazed, grey white porcelain with wheat and leaf design, rope braid trim, open loop lids, and applied handles.
8 cup teapot
10.5 in tall, 9.5 in wide, 4.75 in diameter at base
excellent condition with no chips, cracks, repairs, or staining
manufacturing blemish on side where rough clay did not take glaze
marked on base with black Elmore & Foster crest and embossed diamond mark registration
oversized covered sugar bowl
9 in tall, 8 in wide, 4.5 in diameter at base
excellent condition with no chips, cracks, repairs, or staining
manufacturing blemish inside bottom - excess clay blobs
stress mark in the glaze where the diamond mark is embossed
marked on base with embossed diamond mark registration
Both pieces are in fully usable condition. I suspect the "missing" creamer was used quite regularly and suffered damage while the teapot and sugar bowl appear nearly new (no tea staining in the spout or metal spoon scratches in the sugar bowl). These survivors will make an excellent addition to any collection and their simple white design blends with any style and decor.
